FAQs
- What is the Corbis Education Program?
The Corbis Education website provides free access to authorized individuals from subscribing institutions, to thousands of images to use for learning-related applications.
- How will the content be accessed?
Images in the Corbis Education Program are available to authorized individuals from subscribing institutions through a secure, Corbis-hosted website. This website allows users to search for and download images and provides many of the same features and functionality servicing Corbis' worldwide customers today.
- What resolutions are being offered as part of the Corbis Educational Program?
Images for Art and Design Schools are available in standard and high resolution, for many images up to 32MB. Most images are available for high resolution display and print uses.
- How are the images indexed?
Corbis has built and maintains its own cataloging system in which tagged fields set in hierarchical relationships comprise each record. Each field is filled with data, the majority of which is derived from a controlled vocabulary thesaurus.
Our meta-data or cataloging information is expressed as IPTC (www.iptc.org) headers embedded inside the images. Information (image ID, title, caption, photographer or artist, date, location, and keywords) is also displayed as text on our website.
- What are the permitted uses?
Images can be used for art-related academic course of study, as part of academic course work or for use as classroom materials. The work must be for the end user’s personal, educational use, and not on behalf of an actual client. End users may create works that advertise or promote a fictional product or service, or when used in a student portfolio or other “mock project”, to advertise a product or service for the sole purpose of demonstrating the skills and talent of the end user, but not otherwise used to advertise the product or service.
Images can not be used for any commercial purposes whatsoever. Prohibited uses include marketing and promotional materials or services (e.g., t-shirts, posters, templates, flyers, brochures, calendars, screensavers, “photo mugs”, mailings) and any materials or services for sale or for which fees or charges are paid or received (e.g., textbook supplemental materials, books, syllabi, course packs). Also prohibited is the use on any peer-to-peer file sharing networks, websites , or social networks, blogs or personal web sites, and use in any news publication or journal, and any and all other uses without and Educational Purpose.
Any use of Corbis Images on submissions for contests, awards, sponsorships, portfolio reviews or for posting online require prior approval from Corbis. If in doubt, please contact education@corbis.com with details of your project.
- What if I need to use an image for a use that is not covered by the Education Program?
Please contact the Corbis Education team about your options. For any commercial or publishing use, you will have to license the image through our main web site (www.corbis.com). Please also see the End-User License Agreement for details.
